Shameless Plays: Mika

I caught this kid's appearance - okay, he's 23 - on Jimmy Kimmel this past week, and now I can't get either of the songs he performed out of my head. He quotes his influences as Prince and David Bowie, but Steve and I swore we were watching the spawn of Freddie Mercury - maybe with a little Elton John and younger George Michael mixed in. I'm not one to fall for cheesy pop... okay, yeah I am... but Mika is a superstar, and if you haven't caught on yet (maybe you heard Love Today on Verizon Wireless commercials), you have to do yourself the favor of downloading Grace Kelly or Lollipop.

As I recovered from SXSW, while both looking forward to and dreading the approaching 3-day Coachella, glad to be skipping it's new country cousin the Stagecoach Festival, considering making plans to attend Lollapalooza and CMJ this fall, wondering if my boyfriend's band will play Sunset Junction this August, or if they'd pursue Fuck Yeah Fest, the Silverlake Music Fest, or Arthur Fest instead, concerning myself with coverage for the magazine of Bumbershoot and VooDoo Music Experience, avoiding all discussion of Bonnaroo (dirty hippies), and making plans to go out tonight with my girlfriend with close ties to Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos, I found myself thinking: we really need more music festivals in this country.
