Andie's Pre-Warped Blog

I never thought I'd be so into the Warped Tour! Granted, most of the bands performing are nowhere on my radar, and several others that are make me cringe (I'll leave out the link on that one...), but the prospect of seeing The Transplants, Gogol Bordello, and Billy Idol is pretty rockin'! And you can't knock a tour that has such awesome sponsors as Vans and Atticus - both of which gave us gear to giveaway at tomorrow night's party!

And as if all that wasn't motivation enough to love this tour, I've got one more reason (and so do you!): The Prix!

That's right. My favorite L.A. rockers are going to take what would have been the most banal part of your Warped day and make it a raucus good time! The Prix (pronounced PREE, but you can call them pricks if you want) will be entertaining you from the Earn It Yourself stage at the entrance to the tour grounds. Never thought you'd have such a rockin' time waiting in line to have a rockin' time, did ya'? Well, if you're going to the Long Beach show you're in luck!

But wait - there's more! I'll be there manning the merch! So stop on over, give the boys a listen, say hi, buy a tee, pick up a CD, and spread The Prix.

See you there!

Me 'n My Boo

If you know me, you know I’m not a huge hip-hop fan. I just don’t like most of what’s out there in the mainstream, and I don’t take the initiative to dig a little deeper for the stuff I’d enjoy. I can’t help it – I’m a rock&roll girl at heart. That’s just how my daddy raised me. That said, I don’t deny the brilliance of certain artists, such as Outkast, Cody ChesnuTT, Mos Def, and Missy Elliott. Have you seen her new video? FANTASTIC! I rarely stop my work to watch a video all the way through, but Missy’s so beyond all the hip-hop clichés, especially in her videos. And have you seen the woman lately? She’s looking so healthy and beautiful! You go girl – I give you two snaps and a twist!

"The Scene" is Going Down the Toilet

If you don’t know of Cobrasnake, well, you’re probably not in NYC or LA, not between the ages of 18 and 35, don’t read Nylon, Zink, or the LA Weekly, and won’t get the reference. But if you do know of the paparazzi-esque phenomenon this underage shutterbug has created, and if you don’t have a weak stomach (I’m warning you – this is kinda’ gross!), check out the site lampooning one of our favorite scenesters:
The Shit Snake.

EARTHQUAKE!!!

June 16, 2005 - 1:53pm - 5.3 centered in Yucaipa, CA

I was just on the phone with the Jameson distributor, leaving her a voicemail actually, when we got a real good earthquake-shake! My message went something like this:

"Hi ___________! This is Andrea, the promoter from Star Shoes. I was just calling to follow up with you about our promotion tonight...what the?... holy shit! We just had an earthquake! Wow - um... sorry... now I'm totally distracted... that was crazy... um, please give me a call back at ______________. Thanks!"

What can I say - I'm a pro! Mishu just poked her head out from under the bad and gave me a "take it easy" look. HA! That was awesome. I bet we get a biggie soon!

Birthweek, DMV, Pat O'Brian, and 4:45am wake up calls

I just had a birthday. I'm not the kind of girl who gets depressed over the idea of growing older. I think it's because my parents are still very fun and social, so I don't see age as much more than a number. And I LOVE to throw a party, so what better reason to get all my friends together?

Tomorrow night is the party portion of the week, so I'm getting psyched. First I have to survive tomorrow morning and my 4:45am wakeup call. I'm taking Jaime to the airport and sending her off on Warped Tour. How awesome is her summer gonna be?? Not that mine's too shabby - I get to spend it throwing parties in my favorite city in the whole wide world! And the wake-up call is nothing after the week I've had. On top of the fact that my license expired on my b'day, the DMV screwed up my information and wouldn't let me renew it (they said it had already been done!). I had to spend three times as long as I should have at the DMV to get it taken care of - I've never wanted to take the written exam so badly in my life! I wished they would just take my money and let me get it over with! The DMV in this state (and probably several others) certainly has a record of being crappy in my experience.

Since I didn't have a valid license, I enjoyed a bus ride to Hollywood. It wasn't far (I live in Los Feliz), but damn was it unpleasant. On my little walk to Sunset to the bus stop, however, I did see Pat O'Brian enjoying lunch with a woman. It was my second sighting of him in the recent past - the first being at the Key Club for a Run Run Run/American Eyes show. Anthony Kiedis was there, too. But I digress (as if I've made a point this whole entry). And it's past my bed time...

The white spots are finally gone

Being sick sucks. I just had to put it out there, in case you didn't know already. I really did myself in by "toughing it out" and going to our party last Thursday, and as a result I've been in bed since. Today is day 5 and the white spots are finally gone from my throat (which is still swollen), I have a bit of an appetite, and I can be out of bed for more than 10 minutes without feeling like I'm gonna pass out. Yay! As if it all wasn't bad enough, it got me during that time of the month. Son of a... The upside? I got a lot of great t.v. viewing in: Chloe is alive on Days of Our Lives, mixing glue into your plaster when making decorative molds helps stengthen the mix, and the ex-girlfriend in 40 Days and 40 Nights is a royal bitch!

Now I'm back in action and working on some awesome drink promotions (here's a hint - sort of!) for you all for the next couple of weeks. Come out and enjoy them with me, okay?
